Saturday night 25th June promises to offer up a rare treat for those wishing to purchase original items from some of New Zealand’s top Maori artists. At the Matariki dinner and dance, some 20 pieces of art will be auctioned in a silent auction. Items from well known artists such as Shane Cotton, Michael Tuffrey, Clive Arlidge and Stanley Palmer will sit alongside other items from lesser known, but talented local artists such as Kylie Miri and Theresa Reihana.

For a copy of the catalogue, click here. If you wish to attend the dinner, or place a bid on any of the artworks, please email with information on the item you want, the maximum bid and your phone number. The silent auction will present all the bids received for each work, with the highest item bid being the winner. Note Credit Card details will be required to guarantee a phone bid.

Nau mai haere mai to the Kororareka Marae Society Matariki midwinter dinner and dance!

Saturday 25th June at Kororareka Russell Town Hall, starting 6.30 pm. Tickets just $25 per head which includes dinner and dancing till late. Make sure you don’t miss out, get together a group of friends and have some fun at the Matariki dinner and dance.

Ever wanted to find out more about Ki-o-Rahi? Well now you can! This free workshop is a great opportunity to learn more about this exciting game enjoying a strong revival!

Ki-o-rahi game

Sport Northland in conjuction with Kororareka Marae and Russell Museum would like to invite you to share in the fun, learning and revival of Ki-o-Rahahi, a traditional Maori ball game. This ball game was played by Maori before Europeans arrived in Aotearoa.

Starts at 0900 with a Powhiri at Haratu, The Strand, Kororaka Russell, with theory and practical session taking place at Russell School. The day finishes at 3.00 pm. Click here to download a full timetable and programme.

Please bring black skirt for powhiri, kai to share, water bottle, active clothing, footwear and sunblock.
