Ever wanted to find out more about Ki-o-Rahi? Well now you can! This free workshop is a great opportunity to learn more about this exciting game enjoying a strong revival!

Sport Northland in conjuction with Kororareka Marae and Russell Museum would like to invite you to share in the fun, learning and revival of Ki-o-Rahahi, a traditional Maori ball game. This ball game was played by Maori before Europeans arrived in Aotearoa.

Starts at 0900 with a Powhiri at Haratu, The Strand, Kororaka Russell, with theory and practical session taking place at Russell School. The day finishes at 3.00 pm.  Click here to download a full timetable and programme.

Please bring black skirt for powhiri, kai to share, water bottle, active clothing, footwear and sunblock.

Formerly the home of the Department of Conservation, the building provides a Maori cultural presence for the community.

Opened on 11th December 2009, the premises offer:

  • retail presence, featuring Maori arts and craft
  • venue hire for small groups and conferences
  • a venue for educational purposes focusing on tikanga Maori
