The Hone Heke Run is a fun event held in Russell during the Festival of Kororareka. The event is approximately 2.5 km long and starts at Haratu on the Russell Kororareka waterfront. Runners run to the historic flagstaff, Whakakotahitanga at the top of Maiki hill, then run back down again on the waterfront.
There is one trophy but no other prizes, just the fun and kudos of having participtated, although all contestents who complete the run will get a certificate. Entrance fee is a gold coin donation. An entry form can be downloaded here.
